How do you plan your landscape shoots, do you scout locations in advance, or chase spontaneous moments?

It’s usually a mix of both. I’ll research areas in advance with maps, Google Earth, local knowledge, Instagram searches, but once I arrive at a location I let instinct take over. The best images almost always happen when something unexpected unfolds be it unexpected fog rolling in, a break in the clouds casting a light beam, or an unexpected wildlife encounter. I like to be prepared enough to find the scene, but open enough to let nature rewrite the plan.

How do you know when a landscape photo deserves to become a print?

My perfectionism will never allow a photo to be perfect, but I consider it ready for print if it still stops me in my tracks after hundreds of edits. I’ll live with a photo for a while to let it marinate. Oftentimes I'll make several tiny edits over the course of multiple months before I decide a photo is finished. When it's ready, I'll print a small proof, see how it feels on the wall, how it changes in different light. The ones that make it to large-format prints usually carry a certain calm or sense of place I can’t shake. It’s less about technical perfection and more about emotional weight.

What’s next for your landscape photography, new regions, new techniques, or new moods you want to explore?

I've recently relocated from the United States full time to Ireland and I'm really inspired being in a new country. I’m drawn to the subtle moods of mist, sea air, and muted tones of Ireland. After years of chasing big, dramatic scenes in the American West, I’m more interested in quiet beauty. It feels like a shift from spectacle to stillness, and that’s where my work is heading.
